  • Trinity Catholic turns back St. Joseph's - For much of Tuesday night, Tevin Baskin was a face in the crowd, taking ill-advised shots, turning the ball over and doing few of the things that have made him one of the most coveted players in the state. Then, with his team mired in one of its worst performances in recent memory and the quest for a second straight league championship on the line, the Trinity Catholic center morphed into a cover boy. Baskin scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to carry the Crusaders to a 54-46 win over St. Joseph in an FCIAC semifinal game at Fairfield Warde. He scored 12 straight points for his team during one stretch in the fourth quarter after top-seeded Trinity Catholic (22-0) had blown a 13-point lead. - Read full article from Connecticut Post
  • Boys basketball Round up for Tuesday 2/10/09 - Connecticut Post - Tyler Bisack scored 14 points and Anthony Rodriguez added 13 as Fairfield Warde ended a 59-game losing streak with a 47-40 FCIAC victory over rival Fairfield Ludlowe Tuesday night. The Mustangs' last victory had been a 39-36 triumph over Staples on Feb. 7, 2006. - Read full article from Connecticut Post
  • Davis, Harding race past St. Joseph's - For a variety of reasons, Harding coach Charlie Bentley opted not to put his best team on the floor in the first quarter of his team's pivotal FCIAC home game against St. Joseph. Nagging injuries suffered in last week's loss to Central had something to do with it. He also wanted to get the reserves some needed playing time. - Read full article from Connecticut Post
  • Montelli nothces 800th Victory - St. Joseph boys’ basketball coach Vito Montelli earned his 800th career victory Friday night as the Cadets edged New Canaan 69-65 in a Fairfield County Conference game at New Canaan. Greg Langston led St. Joseph (7-3) with 19 points. Matt Marconi added 14 points. Hillhouse 56, Xavier 46: Jeremy Moore scored 22 points to lift the Academics to an SCC interdivision victory at Middletown. - Read full article from New Haven Register
  • Bassick Denies Montelli's 800th win - Bassick's players knew the significance of this game. They didn't want to go down in history as St. Joseph coach Vito Montelli's 800th victory, especially on their home court. But as much as the Lions wanted to use Montelli's impending milestone as motivation against St. Joseph, they cared infinitely more about kick-starting their season before it's too late. Led by senior forward Jeremy Williams' 19 points and 17 apiece from Mike Lomax and Kyle Geer, Bassick completed phase one of its reconstruction with an 82-74 victory Tuesday night at Bassick. - Read full article from Connecticut Post
  • Montelli Goes for No. 800 Tonight - Longtime St. Joseph boys’ basketball coach Vito Montelli is going to try and treat tonight’s game like any other regular-season contest during his 47-year coaching career, even if others around him may not. - Read full article from New Haven Register
  • Langston cousins learned their lessons well - When it comes to basketball, Frank Langston's been around. Save for a handful of truly legendary players, the 56-year-old Bridgeport native has seen as much, played as much and accomplished as much and as anyone in this city. Langston was an all-state player at Stratford in the early 1970s. He played ball with Barry McLeod, Frank Oleynick and Walter Luckett up at Beardsley Terrace. He went to college, even played some semipro ball in St. Louis and Hartford. Later, he helped two of his sons, Frank Jr. and Greg, become standouts at Central and Stratford, respectively. - Read full article from Connecticut Post
