Mike Harding has always had an eye for talent, as he did an excellent job recruiting at Stonehill College alongside Dave McLaughlin, seemingly always outworking schools, finding guys that were underrecruited, or locating guys outside the area. That eye for talent is already working wonders at St. Michael's College in Vermont, as Harding and his staff reported the commitment of Michael Holton from the Winchendon School.
Holton comes from an impressive background, as his father, Michael Holton Sr., has played in the NBA and coached for years in the NBA and college basketball.
The 6'0 point guard came from Sunset HS in Portland, Oregon, to do a post-graduate year recommended by some West Coast schools, such as University of Portland. He had his share of Division I suitors following him throughout the course of the summer, as he played with the Portland Legends AAU program, but all that changed this year when Holton went down with a season-ending injury, breaking his thumb.
His recruitment never really picked back up and St. Mike's will be rewarded because of it. He is a coach's son on the floor, very steady and smart, can shoot the ball, and knows how to make plays. He should step in immediately and challenge for playing time next year.
