Tharpe chooses to stay local

March 18, 2010 New England Hoop News Staff

Nadir Tharpe grew up in Worcester and has remained a New England guy throughout his entire upbringing.  That trend stayed consistent as Tharpe gave Keno Davis and the Providence Friars a verbal commitment. The opportunity to play about 45 minutes down the road in the big east was too enticing for Tharpe.

Jason Smith, his head coach at Brewster Academy, said he would have been shocked to see him go anywhere but Boston College or Providence.

Tharpe was instrumental in helping Brewster capture another Class A crown and also a Prep National Championship.  At 5'11, Tharpe is a true point guard, in the sense that he makes guys better. He doesn't look to score before looking to get his teammates involved first.

In addition to helping his Brewster Academy team, Tharpe showed his winning ways this summer leading his New England Playaz AAU squad to the finals in the Adidas Super 64, championship of the Hall of Fame First Eight, and other major tournaments.

Tharpe will compliment Gerard Coleman well in the backcourt and also Ron Giplaye, both New England natives.
