There were stretches of Thursday night's high school girls basketball game that just didn't go Central's way.
For the final eight minutes, though, the Golden Eagles rode their poise and experience to an independent win.
Great man-to-man defense and five blocks in the last quarter didn't hurt either.
Central pulled away from upstart Chicopee Comprehensive with a big fourth quarter, staying unbeaten against opponents from Western Massachusetts with a 56-45 home victory.
"We're pretty excited," said Central's Kilandra Bass, who made four late free throws. "We're happy we're one step closer to making the Western Mass. tournament and we're ready to move forward."
