The Birthplace of Basketball will be the host site Friday through Sunday for one of the largest AAU tournaments in the Northeast as 170 boys basketball teams will travel to Greater Springfield to play in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Spring Classic.
Teams from as far away as the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Canada will make the trip to the region to compete in the fifth annual event, which began in 2005 with roughly 25 teams.
"It's one of those tournaments that now ... growth comes with consistency and doing things the right way," said Colin Tabb, general manager of BasketBull, LLC, which is presenting the tournament. "Over the last five or six years, this tournament has stayed on the same weekend every year, and we focus on doing a good job and making the customer happy."
