On a Wednesday night when Alex Lopez painted himself next to the greatest scorers in Commerce basketball history, Central reasserted its status as Western Massachusetts' finest team.
Behind a suffocating defense and 15 points from Tyrell Springer, Central ruined Lopez' introduction to the Commerce 1,000-point club with a 52-43 war of attrition at Central high school.
"We're not sneaking up on anyone, we know that. And coming here especially is tough. The atmosphere is difficult, the noise factor is tough -- this is a big rivalry," Central coach Mike Labrie said.
