It had a little of everything: sprawling bodies, a technical foul, coaches several steps on the floor, a howling student section, elbows, jabs and even an incident in the postgame handshake line.
And amid the hostility Tuesday night at Waterford Fieldhouse came this noteworthy occurrence: Stonington High School earned itself a first-place tie within the Eastern Connecticut Conference's Medium Division, handing Waterford its first loss of the season.
The Bears, who led by 24 points in the final minute of the third period, coughed and wheezed their way to the end, but managed a 78-69 victory.
