Norwich, Conn. - The New London boys' basketball team and Connecticut high school basketball is left in the shadow of Kris Dunn this season. The 6-foot-3 Providence signee is having a remarkable senior season and just recently broke the school's scoring record.

But New London is much more than just one terrific player.

Malcolm Simmons, a 6-foot-5 senior forward has been a tremendous complement to Dunn all season.

He's tough and physical and crashes the boards hard. He can score, but rebounding is where he'll make his living at the next level whether it is prep school or Division III ball. What's most impressive though is that he understands and accepts his role on the court.

Simmons has not yet decided on his future as his final season with the Whalers wraps up. He has looked at big-time prep schools such as St. Andrew's (R.I.) and South Kent (Conn.)

He also has a steady list of D3 schools interested in him. University of New England and Nichols College were in attendance for Friday night's game against Norwich Free Academy.

Also on Simmons' list is Albertus Magnus, Rhode Island College and Eastern Connecticut have all shown interest.

Although he has at least five colleges looking at him, he has yet to see all of the schools.

New London head coach Craig Parker on Simmons:

"Malcolm is been playing varsity basketball for us since his freshman year. Malcolm has worked on his outside shot. He's making his outside shot for us this year. We're allowing him to take it more this year because he's proven to me that he has the ability to shoot the 15-16 footer. He's added some range to his offensive game."
