Niang hits rare 2000 point plateau

January 25, 2012 New England Hoop News Staff

As the Tilton boys basketball team traveled south to play in the Mountaineer Classic in West Virginia, senior captain, Georges Niang was on the cusp of accomplishing something that few players can ever claim they've done.  In the state of Connecticut, there has only been about 16 boys players that have accomplished this feat.  In Massachusetts, as of summer 2010, there had been only 29 boys basketball players to make that mark.

We don't have any statistics for the New Hampshire state or prep ranks, but you can include Niang in these records as he eclipsed the 2,000 point mark on his way to leading the Rams to a 68-53 win over Arlington Country Day School.  He also collected MVP honors in their win over Villa Angela-St. Joseph, 67-50.

An amazing part of this story is that Niang has accomplished this record only at the Tilton School.  We see so many kids transfer to prep school to play at a higher level of competition and although preps may play more games in their schedule, let's not also forget the competition level is certainly  higher.

Niang will be attending Iowa State next fall and has his sites set on a repeat championship in Class AA at Tilton.
