Day 2 of the Spalding Hoophall Classic was dominated by the performance of Cicero-North (N.Y.) senior, Breanna Stewart. The nation's top female basketball player scored 22 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and swatted seven shots in Cicero-North's dominating 60-20 win over West Springfield High School (Mass.).
The 6-foot-4 forward, already committed to the University of Connecticut, drew a small crowd of UConn faithful, eager to see the next potential UConn star.
Stewart got off to a slow start, but when she finally got in the flow of the game, she dominated at both ends. The future UConn Husky, who has actually dunked in a game, can really sky. At one point in the second half, Stewart blocked a shot that ricocheted off the referee's head.
Offensively, Stewart does everything well. She scored a few baskets inside, but showed some great range for someone her size by knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Stewart also displayed a strong vision, finding teammates for open shots.
What was most surprising was that several times Stewart grabbed the rebound and ran the offense up the floor.
Current-UConn freshman, Kaleena Mosqueda Lewis was the top UConn prospect at last year's Hoophall Classic.
