July or Never - Zach Auguste

June 29, 2011 New England Hoop News Staff

July has become the most important month on the calendar of any young, aspiring basketball player.  If you're someone looking to play at the next level, you have to come ready to show what you've got on the July circuit.  With that being said, we're going to take a look at different players across the six New England states that have the opportunity to really prove themselves next month.

The Intro: It's not a matter of what level Zach Auguste is capable of playing at, it's a matter of where he'll end up.  Fresh off an unofficial visit to the University of Connecticut where Auguste played with their guys (along with Noah Vonleh), Auguste is ready to prove his worth this summer.  Auguste is a 6'8, extremely athletic forward that is just beginning to tap into his limitless potential.

The Low-Down:  According to Rivals AAU coach, Vinny Pastore, Auguste is starting to rack up the offers, which include Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Boston College, Providence and Virginia to name a few.  After transferrring to New Hampton last year (from Marlborough HS), his game and recruiting has really taken off.  He is extremely active on both ends of the floor and plays with energy and bounce that separates him because of his size.  His offensive skills are still improving, but he has good touch around the rim and is capable of stepping out to knock down open three's.  At times, Auguste can be appear very dominating, especially in an up and down, fast-paced game.  The more Auguste plays the more consistent he seems.  But that has been his knock...putting it together everytime he's on the floor.

July: Coaches will be out in full force this July keeping tabs on Auguste as he has a long list of suitors, and hasn't really given any indication to what he's looking for in a school.  He'll be playing with the Mass Rivals in July as well as with the Albany City Rocks, during the Nike Peach Jam.  Look for Auguste at Elite 75 and Hall of Fame National Invitational, both starting on July 10th in the Western Massachusetts area.
