Class of 2012 Tilton big man Georges Niang

New England Hoop News recently got a chance to catch up with Tilton big man Georges Niang.  Niang had a breakout summer on the AAU circuit which culminated in his BABC team winning the AAU Nationals in Orlando, FL.  This summer Georges and BABC traveled across the country and competed in high level events such as AAU Nationals (Orland, FL), Peach Jam (Augusta, SC), and  Basketbull First Eight (Springfield, MA).

NEHN: How was your summer?  Do you feel like to got a lot accomplished during the travel season?

Niang: It was really good.  I feel like my stock rose as a prospect and I showed people what I could do on the court as a player against a high level of competition.

NEHN: What areas of your game have improved the most since last year?  What areas are you focusing on during the fall to improve?

Niang:  I feel like my ability to finish with contact has gotten better and scoring on bigger guys inside and out has improved too.  I want to improve my body, get in better shape and work on my handle.

NEHN: If you could, give us some background on you and your family.

Niang:  My family all live in the Merrimack Valley so I’m still kind of close to them at Tilton and I like that about my school.

NEHN: What schools are recruiting you?

Niang: Siena, Miami (OH), New Hampshire, Florida Atlantic, Northeastern and Hofstra have all offered me.  Monmouth, Boston College, Stony Brook, Boston University and Notre Dame have all contacted me.

NEHN:  Have you taken any unofficial visits or have any planned?

Niang: I have already visited UNH and Northeastern and I will be going to BU and Sienna in the next month some time.  I also plan to visit Florida Atlantic in January.

NEHN: Are there any coaches that you have developed a good relationship with?

Niang: Yeah,  Coach (Bill) Coen from Northeastern, Coach (Craig) Carter from Sienna and I’m tight with Coach (Chris) Mohr from UNH.

NEHN: What are some factors that will impact your college choice?

Niang: I’m looking for a school with good academics, a good coaching staff and I want to play at a school where I can have an immediate impact.

NEHN: Who would you compare your game to at either the college or pro level?

Niang: I would say I like to compare my game to a combination of Luke Harangody and Tim Duncan type of game.

NEHN: Who around you is going to be giving you input and guiding you in your selection of a college?

Niang: My family will have some input.  I also have been talking with my mentor Rick Gorman, my coach Marcus O’Neil and my AAU coach Leo Papile.
